The National Park of Abruzzo, in the heart of the Apennine Mountains in Italy, covers nearly 500 km2. It was created to preserve and save the most vulnerable species of this unique ecosystem. Apennine chamois, wolf and Marsican brown bear owe their survival to efforts of many men and women who fight by their side. In Abruzzo, the main threats to the survival of these species are the settlement fragmentation, roads and poaching. Sheperds, sometimes exasperated by attacks on their livestock, have also been known to poison wildlife. These scientists and lovers of wild nature are their last chance!
