A Paradise of waterfalls and lakes of emerald waters, the national park of Plitvice in Croatia has been popular amongst nature lovers for centuries. Aware of the need to preserve such a unique place, Croats created this national park in 1949. Extending over nearly 300 km2, lakes and waterfalls represent only one percent of this protected area, the rest being occupied by a vast primeval forest of beeches and pines. It features rich and diverse flora and fauna such as deer, brown bears, wolves and birds of prey. Men and women try to preserve this last wild Eden.
