Tasting Brazil
Episode :
The Corn Festival of Caruaru
20X26'
Bel Coelho visits to the town of Caruaru where, as part of Carnaval, one of Brasil’s most important and spectacular festivalsis celebrated: the São João. It is a celebration of rural life, the coming of the winter rains, and the harvest of corn, the festival’s iconic food.
At the town’s open-air marketplace, Bel Coelho stops to try some pork stew that is cooked in its own blood. Later, in the heart of Caruaru, she helps prepare a fairly large rice pudding - enough to feed 2,000 people! The next day, in the countryside, two farmers, Inalda and Paulo, show Bel how to make a 'pamonha' and a 'canjica', two traditional Sao Joao recipes.
