Created in 1912 by the Royal Zoological Society of Scotland, the Edinburgh Zoo is world-renowned for its cutting-edge research on chimpanzees. Here the complicated social structures and complex relationships that govern their behavior can be witnessed and studied. But the chips are just one of the animals that bring the zoo’s 600,000 visitors per year.
The zoo is also home to many endangered species, including the Asian lion, one of the rarest animals in the world, and the stunning flightless bid, the cassowary, native to Australia and New Guinea.  Not to mention the very cute Dik-dik, a miniature antelope! However, the star attraction for many visitors are the zoos variety of playful penguins.

The jaguars, pumas, and tigers, all have one thing in common: their hunger for fresh meat. It’s with much care that the meals are prepared for these animals. The Edinburgh Zoo provides the best suited habitats for all of its animals, allowing them to eat, live and reproduce as naturally as possible.
